No question, the BackUp is THE all-rounder from the new range. Working well either Tele or AT and equally happy going up as coming down. K2 construction means twin sheets of titanium alloy (one below and one above the wood core) sandwiched between fibreglass. Although a time consuming way to make a ski it ensures superb feel, amazing edge hold and longevity, not things you’ll get if you cut corners. Perhaps not the very lightest but try not to get overly hung up about weight, most people (even the backcountry freaks) buy skis to go downhill and all skis work better with a bit of beef behind them (I don’t mean you). The dimensions strike a fine balance 40% soft 60% variable and it rarely gets out of its depth in the snow conditions most people find.
